He was born in Paris, November 14th of 1840. Due to his painting Impression, Sunrise the movement received its name. He lived (mostly) and died in Giverny at the age of 86 on 5 December.

He developed paintings in which he had the same scene with different light as the seasons evolved, something that is known as series. The most recognised of the called before was the Water Lilies series.
